Jodie Harper: Cranial Prosthesis Specialist King George, Virginia

My name is Jodie Harper, and I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist and master's license technician for 18 years. I am a lover of hair and health. Although I’ve had many accomplishments during my career, my number one goal has always been to make my client feel loved, accepted, and beautiful no matter what stage they are in with their hair.

Hair is more than just the strands on your head; it’s a journey and testament to your identity. Whether my clients find themselves transitioning from relaxers, looking to identify the cause of breakage or ongoing shedding, scalp and hair loss disorders, or somewhere in between, I am here to provide a sanctuary for holistic haircare.

What do you enjoy as a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist?

I have always enjoyed caring for people’s hair and watching it go from the most damaging places to regrowth. However, in my first encounter with my sister over 20 years ago, I noticed a patch of hair missing from her eyebrow, and she should seek the advice of a dermatologist to confirm if it was alopecia like I suspected.

It was indeed what I was learning about in cosmetology school at the time, and I was able to get my sister into the right hands to get it under control for a period of time. After assisting my sister, I have had many more clients that I’d prefer, but after the referral process, I never knew what would happen with the client until they returned asking for help.

At the time, I lacked the knowledge, resources, relationships, and education that being a cranial prosthesis specialist offers; I love that I’m now able to have this training and knowledge. I no longer have to send my client out to get lost in the shuffle to get help. I also love that I can provide a solution that will help not only with normalcy for the client but also remind them they don’t have to walk through any of it alone.

How do you want to help your clients?

My goal is to save lives one head at a time. I do this by educating my clients and myself on the latest updates, recommendations, and practices in cranial prostheses and cosmetology.

Do you also install medical-grade wigs?

Yes.

What do you love about the community you work and live in?

I love that the community is rural, and in most rural communities, you sometimes have to travel a good way to “town” to see a specialist for many things. However, being planted here, I am here for the locals, but I’m also easily accessible to several counties and major cities like Alexandria, VA; Richmond, VA; LaPlata, MD; and Waldorf, MD.

As a cosmetologist and cranial prosthesis specialist, I understand that each strand tells a unique story, and I celebrate hair's diversity. My mission is to provide personalized care that goes beyond mere styling. I believe in the power of education and empowerment, equipping you with the knowledge and tools to embrace and care for your hair with confidence.
