Orland Park, Illinois
I'm Josalyn Miles, the owner of Restorative Assurance in Orland Park, Illinois, and a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist.
I've been making wigs for 22 years, and I'm a cosmetologist. I didn't come to this work by accident, though. I started making wigs because of my own medical hair loss.
I've been where you are
When I lost my hair, I didn't know what a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist was.
I didn't know a medical wig could be prescribed, or that insurance might help pay for one.
Now that I am one, I can help you from personal experience as well as my knowledge as a cosmetologist. I know how much it means when someone takes the time to understand your story before they reach for a unit.
If you're still trying to make sense of what's behind your own hair loss, this overview of fifteen different causes of hair loss is a good place to start. Your doctor or dermatologist is the right person to diagnose it.
Where beauty meets mental health
Over the years I've had the pleasure of helping women reclaim their identity.
The way I see it, my work bridges the gap between mental health and beauty.
Hair loss is never only about hair. It affects how you see yourself, how you show up at work, and whether you want to leave the house at all. A good unit helps with all of that. What gives my patients a real boost of confidence is a unit that fits well and looks like them, made by someone who listened first.
Listening first
I want to help my clients by listening to their story and walking with them through their journey.
That's the part I won't rush.
Your appointment starts with a conversation about what's happened, how you're feeling, and what you want your hair to look like day to day. The technical decisions come after that, not before.
I make, fit and install
With two decades of wig making behind me, I understand how a unit is built, not only how it looks once it's finished. That shapes how I advise you on fit, density and comfort.
I also install medical-grade wigs, so you won't leave my suite with a unit you're unsure how to wear. You'll leave with it fitted, styled and blended, and with a clear idea of how to care for it.
Why certification changed my work
For years I could make the unit, but I couldn't help my clients pay for it through their insurance.
Getting certified through Wig Medical took me to the next level, because it gave me access to insurance billing.
That matters because a cranial prosthesis is a medical device, not a cosmetic purchase. If you're a stylist or wig maker wondering whether you could do the same, here's what becoming a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist involves.
What to know about insurance
I can't promise you'll be covered, and nobody can until your plan has actually been checked.
What your plan pays depends on your policy, your state, your diagnosis and how your paperwork is put together. Original Medicare does not cover cranial prostheses at present.
You can request a free insurance benefit review before we meet, so you'll have a sense of what your plan requires and what you might pay. If you'd like to see the whole process from start to finish, here's how a Wig Medical cranial prosthesis case works, from intake through fitting and billing.
A private suite
What I love about where I work is that my suite gives every person privacy and comfort.
It's just the two of us, so you can talk freely, take your time and see yourself in a new unit without an audience.
If you'd like to talk
You can find me on TikTok at @Customwigdr or at rassurance.net.
If you're reaching out for someone you love, you can also refer a friend or family member through Wig Medical. And if Orland Park isn't convenient, here are more certified specialists across Illinois.
