Quiana Bell
Katy, Texas
I'm Quiana Bell, founder of The Crown & Strand House LLC, serving Katy and the greater Houston area as a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist.
My background is rooted in entrepreneurship and in serving people — in creating experiences that actually mean something to the person on the receiving end. That's what I've brought into this work.
Why I started The Crown & Strand House
I built this business around a simple belief: beauty, confidence and compassion belong together.
Hair loss can affect your confidence, your identity and your emotional wellbeing, and that's especially true when it comes alongside a medical condition or a course of treatment. What I want to offer is a place where you receive more than a product. You receive understanding, encouragement and care.
I'm certified through Wig Medical and I'm committed to continuing my education in cranial prostheses. This is a field where the learning doesn't stop, and I'd rather tell you that plainly than pretend otherwise.
What I look forward to most
The chance to make a real difference in someone's life.
I love the idea of helping someone feel beautiful, comfortable and more like themselves again. For me this is about much more than hair — it's about compassion, dignity, and reminding every client that they are still beautiful through every season of life.
How I want you to feel here
Seen, heard, respected and cared for.
That's the whole standard.
Practically, that means personalized cranial prosthesis solutions chosen around your needs, your preferences and the life you actually live — not a single option handed to everyone who walks in.
It also means a judgment-free conversation. You should feel comfortable asking the questions you're embarrassed to ask and saying the things that worry you. Nobody arrives at this an expert, and you shouldn't have to pretend you are.
If you haven't seen one before, a medical-grade cranial prosthesis is built differently from a retail wig — a breathable base rather than lace, worn without glue, and designed for a scalp that may be sensitive or healing.
Help with the paperwork
One of the most useful things I can do is help you understand the documentation you may need in order to explore insurance reimbursement.
Your physician — usually a dermatologist or an oncologist — writes the prescription, and the wording carries real weight: it should say cranial prosthesis rather than wig. The first is a medical device; the second reads as a cosmetic purchase, and that distinction decides a surprising number of claims. Here's how insurance coverage for a cranial prosthesis works if you'd like to understand the process before we talk.
What I won't do is promise you a reimbursement before your plan has been checked, because nobody honestly can. Coverage depends on your plan, your state, your diagnosis, your documentation and your supplier status, and Original Medicare doesn't cover cranial prostheses at present. Many denials come down to how something was documented rather than whether you were truly excluded, which is exactly why this part is worth doing carefully.
I should also be clear about scope: I handle the consultation, the fitting and the documentation. I don't offer installation, so if you need your unit applied I can point you toward a licensed cosmetologist. That's a normal partnership in this field, not a gap in your care.
If you're still working out what's behind your hair loss, there's a plain-English guide to the types of medical hair loss here on the site.
Serving Houston
What I love about Houston is the diversity, the resilience and the sense of community.
This is a city of people from many different backgrounds, cultures and walks of life, and I appreciate getting to serve a community where every person has their own story and deserves care shaped around it rather than around a template.
I want The Crown & Strand House to be a trusted resource here — not just for clients, but for healthcare professionals and community organizations looking for somewhere to send people.
If you'd like to talk
You can find me at thecrownandstrandhouse.com or on Instagram at @thecrownandstrandhouse. There's no obligation in a first conversation, and asking whether you might be covered costs you nothing.
If you'd like to check before reaching out, start with the free insurance coverage checker. And if Katy is too far to travel, you can find a certified specialist closer to you in the Wig Medical directory.
