Shannon Saumweber: Cranial Prosthesis Specialist Rehoboth, Massachusetts

For the last 20 years I have worked as a teacher and licensed hairstylist. Five years ago, however, my daughter who was just 11 years old, developed alopecia universalis and lost all of her hair within just a few months.

We struggled to find the help and support we needed with wigs as she transitioned into her new normal, and it was then that I realized my expertise in hair care and my personal journey with my daughter's hair loss could be combined to help others facing similar challenges.

I became determined, not just to successfully navigate this journey with my daughter, but to make a difference in the lives of others as well by sharing my knowledge in hopes of helping them navigate their new normal and reclaim their sense of self with the highest quality, medical-grade wigs.

What do you enjoy as a Cranial Prosthesis Specialist?

I enjoy helping others who are facing medical hair loss like my daughter, embrace a new life of freedom when they discover high quality, medical-grade wigs.

I also know that there is very little information out there when it comes to getting medical wigs covered by insurance, so I am excited to share my knowledge in order to help others gain access to the types of hair pieces that they never thought they would be able to afford otherwise.

How do you want to help your clients?

I want to share my knowledge of medical-grade wigs and just how life-changing they can be to those suffering from medical-related hair loss. Losing all of your hair is not just a cosmetic issue, it goes much deeper than that affecting ones confidence, mental health, and more. I also want to help my clients gain access to insurance coverage of their wigs.

Do you also install medical grade wigs?

Yes! I am a licensed cosmetologist and have a lot of experience with installing wigs.

What do you love about the community you work and live in?

Within my community I love that I am able to develop trust among clients as they know I have first-hand experience with hair loss, and can offer my guidance based on what I have been through already with my daughter.

In addition, the relationships that I am able to develop in this industry are truly so fulfilling, knowing that I am helping others find their confidence and joy again after what they've been through.

For the last 5 years I've known that I wanted to help others facing medical hair loss but wasn't sure how. I am so happy that I am embarking on this journey and cannot wait to help as many people as I possibly can!
